OzHarvest Sunshine Coast continues to grow and thrive. Since commencing operations in August 2014, over 80,000 kg of excess quality food – has been rescued and redistributed – the equivalent of about 240,000 meals! OzHarvest Sunshine Coast is doing its part to help feed vulnerable community members in the Sunshine Coast while at the same time reducing the amount of food that finds its way into landfill. We are proud to be part of an initiative that seeks to lend a helping hand to those who are less fortunate and at the same time do our part to help the environment.
OzHarvest Sunshine Coast was started in 2014 by Chapter Coordinator Michele who brings over 20 years of experience in international aid and development. In three years, we have expanded our operations significantly – providing quality rescued food to over 20 charities, community organisations, churches and schools from Gympie all the way south to Cotton Tree and inland into Nambour. This has been accomplished through the generous donations of our local producers and suppliers. Our fourth year on the Coast will see us grow as we not only expand food rescue operations, but continue to spread the word – wasting food wastes everything. We can each be part of the solution.
