Horse-racing For REAP

More than $3000 for REAP Cairns was raised at a stylish Melbourne Cup Day event this year, hosted by the wonderful staff of Harrison’s Restaurant Port Douglas and some of the passionate volunteers from REAP Cairns. Keen diners and punters joined in the fun, enjoying a delicious three-course lunch created by Harrison’s whilst bidding on the REAP organised silent auction items and Calcutta.

The funds raised from the event will go towards a refrigeration unit for the new REAP ‘ute’, and the get together was a wonderful opportunity for Port Douglas and Cairns regional residents to connect further over food waste, and the impact that REAP’s success  is having there on local hunger.

The Event Manager for Harrison’s, Reina Patrick expressed her delight to the REAP team on the outcome of the day:

“Thank you for your professionalism and hard work yesterday, it was one of the best Cup Days we have had the pleasure of hosting….all the feedback from the guests has been so positive and I agree with them, I had an AWESOME day! Well done REAP Team.”

REAP Cairns Chapter Coordinator, Jana Gorski was also delighted with the event and the amazing contribution from the 77 guests. The REAP Cairns team have recently participated in a wide range of community events and are truly excited that their work is connecting so many vital and passionate cross-sections of their regional community.
