Wagga REAP by OzHarvest volunteers recently celebrated food rescue and its positive impact on the planet at the Lutheran Wagga Sustainable Living Festival. Chapter Coordinators, John and Lyn Foord, were joined by some of their passionate team to educate festival goers on their local REAP project.
Costa, the ever popular gardening and sustainability guru, hooked up with the team to discuss their shared interests and roles as ambassadors for OzHarvest. REAP Wagga Wagga collects an average of several tonnes of excess food every month and their contribution to local charities in free meals, let alone the food waste that they divert from landfill, has seen their team and charity partners grow steadily this year.
John, this passionate REAP coordinator is always fast to recognise the support of their local food donors, and notes that every successful food rescue partnership then paves the way for other food businesses to follow. “The Sustainable Living Festival provided REAP Wagga with an excellent opportunity to connect with new volunteers and simply this happy audience of festival goers about what we do.”
REAP Wagga Wagga has participated in many local community events of late and heads off next week to run the local pub meat raffle as another leg of their fundraising efforts. The team are working hard towards the purchase price for a refrigerated van, to enable their food rescue efforts to expand. It is a truly committed and exciting year ahead for these hard working volunteers….and they always make sure they do it with lots of smiles and bright yellow!
