3 Year Healthy Canberra Grant for NEST!

Posted by on September 15, 2016

OzHarvest Canberra is thrilled to announce we have been successful in the latest round of Healthy Canberra grants!

The grants, made possible and supported by the ACT Government’s ACT Health Promotions Grants Program, will enable our NEST team to deliver hundreds of training sessions focused on a healthy balanced diet while reducing the incidence of chronic diseases which may be a result of inadequate diet and nutritional choices. The sessions also provide tips on food hygiene, menu planning and shopping on a budget.

The funding is for three years and will have a tremendous impact in our local community. Our team is very grateful and proud to have been given such a wonderful show of support!

OzHarvest brings food waste and nutrition education to the Sydney Royal Easter Show

Posted by on March 25, 2015

OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, as part of their Education pillar will be teaching parents and kids a thing or two about food waste and nutrition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, open until 8 April.

At the 2014 show, OzHarvest launched their Nutrition Education Sustenance Training (NEST) program to the public. Continuing on the theme of food education, hundreds of volunteers clad in iconic OzHarvest yellow, will be testing kids as well as their parents on the different food groups, good fats versus bad fats, and challenging their knowledge of unfamiliar vegetables.

The Spices and Herbs Guessing Game will test those who claim to be spice connoisseurs on the difference between cinnamon and cloves, turmeric and cumin.

Through fun, interactive and engaging activities, OzHarvest aims to educate the general public, especially youth, on their work in food rescue, food security and sustainability as well as nutrition.

The OzHarvest stand is located at the Food Farm area until 8 April.

OzHarvest volunteers will be working with RAS to collect any surplus food from the Sydney Royal Easter Showground.
