It’s a MATCHED MONDAY! This is your opportunity to double your impact. Every dollar you donate TODAY will be matched by one of our big hearted supporters, making every $1 = 4 meals (while funds remain). That’s dinner for a struggling family, or breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for a kindergarten child. Please help us feed Australia 💛 events.ozharvest.org/4meals...
OzHarvest Brisbane is only able to continue our environmental and community work thanks to the support of our community, including business friends like Aon Australia. Aon team member Josh recently spent a day volunteering with OzHarvest Food Rescue Driver Dave, learning first-hand about food waste and food insecurity and making an awesome impact on the day by rescuing 2,280 meals on our Inner North Run.
Here’s what Josh had to say about his day in the truck:
“I would like to pass on what a pleasure I had yesterday working with Dave and the OzHarvest team to help drive the change that your organisation does daily across Australia. Dave’s wealth of knowledge was impressive and it was evident the strong relationships he has built along his route. It showed through interactions, the real positive effect it had on the contributions received and the change it is making to the charities currently supported.”
Last week was a tough one for the OzHarvest Brisbane team. Quite a few of our small team were struck down with illness and we had to cancel a number of food rescue runs. We work tirelessly to deliver the largest environmental and social impact possible. When we have no choice but to cancel runs due to factors outside of our control, it weighs heavy on us.
So, after the week that was, we wanted to say:
THANK YOU to our incredible Food Donors who made time for out-of-schedule pick-ups or made plans to hold food over until our next available runs. This commitment to fighting food waste and getting excess food to those doing it tough is awesome.
THANK YOU to our very special agencies and charities who responded with compassion when we had to cancel deliveries. We so appreciate that you see us working hard to explore every option before having to cancel runs. It’s heartbreaking when we are not able to deliver to you and your community, and we are grateful for your kindness and humanity when we have to make these tough decisions.
THANK YOU to our superstar volunteers who worked even harder in our food rescue vehicles and in the office on the phones to adjust to the cancelling and changing of food rescue runs, often at the last minute. We could not do it without our hard-working and passionate Yellow Army!
THANK YOU to our amazing team of Food Rescue Drivers for your efforts in taking on extra shifts and doing everything you could to avoid us having to cancel runs. And thank you to those drivers who were unwell last week and prioritised the health and safety of our agencies and their clients – staying home and taking care of yourself when you are unwell is the best way to avoid the spread of illness during this tough winter time.
