OzHarvest Market Adelaide

Our new free market in Hindmarsh provides rescued produce, pantry staples and cooked meals to people in need based on a ‘take what you need, give if you can’ philosophy.

About the Market

Our free market in Adelaide opened in response to skyrocketing demand for food relief amidst the cost-of-living crisis. Replicating our successful model in Sydney, we rescue surplus food from local supermarkets and food businesses to keep the shelves stocked, so those in need can access nutritious food, free of charge. Our opening hours are:

  • Tuesday 10am – 2pm
  • Wednesday 3pm – 7pm
  • Thursday 10am – 2pm

You can visit the market at 27 Manton St, Hindmarsh.

Individual Volunteering

The Market is powered by our wonderful volunteers. We are always looking for people who can commit to a recurring weekly shift, any day Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Roles during your volunteer shifts could include:

  • Setup of market; filling shelves and organising food donations
  • Serving market guests alongside OzHarvest staff
  • Assisting to pack down at the end of the day

As this is a free community initiative, we would love to be able to provide nourishment and food to as many people in need as possible in Adelaide.

We ask that guests please respect our philosophy of taking what you need and giving if you can, and access the Market one day, out of the three opening days to be able to share food with others.

OzHarvest is a charitable organisation that depends on the generosity of donors and partners to be able to ‘Nourish Our Country’. We thank you for respecting our values to share with others in the community

Demand for food relief is high right now, so there is often a short wait to access the Market and we thank you for your patience.

The OzHarvest Market Adelaide is stocked with beautiful rescued food and is free-of-charge for anyone in need. We operate on a ‘take what you need, give if you can’ philosophy. If you wish to leave a donation this helps keep our doors open.

With food rescue we never really know what we will get from one day to the next. Our aim is to have the Market stocked with fresh, healthy produce such as fruit, vegetables and some pantry staples. Unfortunately, the amount of food we can give to each guests is limited and will not be consistent week to week.

Yes, when shopping at the Market, you can select your own items while being guided by our lovely volunteers. There will be a limited number of items per guest to ensure food is fairly distributed across the three open days.

Yes please! Our OzHarvest Market aims to be a plastic-free store, and we don’t have bags for sale, so you must bring your own bag each time to take your food home.

No ID or card access is required at the market, everyone is welcome!

For more detailed information on public transport and parking, please refer to our downloadable PDF guide.

Thank you!

A huge thank you to the generosity of philanthropists Richard Collins AM and Joanna Collins AM for making this market possible.
