A pecuniary gift
A specific sum of money left to a beneficiary, such as “$10,000 to my niece Sarah.” This fixed dollar amount is paid from the estate’s liquid assets before other distributions are made.

A specific gift
A particular, identifiable item or asset designated for a specific beneficiary, such as “my grandmother’s ring to my daughter” or “my Tesla to my son.”

A percentage gift
A proportional share of your estate, expressed as a percentage rather than a fixed amount. For example, “25% of my estate to charity X” ensures the gift adjusts with the total value of your estate.

When it’s time to update your will, you can use a codicil – an addition or supplement that explains or modifies your existing will.
