20 Millionth Meal Delivered in Queensland!

by admin

It’s been an exciting month for OzHarvest Queensland as they marked their twenty million meal milestone with a big celebration.

On Friday 10th May 2019, OzHarvest team members, volunteers, donors, charities and business partners came together to celebrate OzHarvest’s 20 millionth meal delivered to people in need in Queensland.

At the event, OzHarvest CEO and Founder Ronni Kahn AO reflected on OzHarvest’s growth in Queensland and what the future holds in evolving technology and education programs to fight food waste.

“Our growth in Queensland has been immense and hitting the 20 million meal milestone is a huge achievement. Our food rescue operations have grown with a fleet of 13 yellow vans across the state. We have also seen our education and engagement programs flourish and support all areas of our community, including NEST, Nourish and Cooking For A Cause. OzHarvest’s new primary school program FEAST is on the horizon for Queensland next year. I cannot express the joy in my heart, knowing that we’re all working together as a family to nourish our country.”

Ronni’s joy was shared equally by Amy Cobb, OzHarvest Queensland State Manager: “Our world of food rescue, food relief and education is extremely fast-paced, so it’s a delight to come together as one family and reflect on the positive impacts we’ve delivered to more than 250 charities in Queensland.”

“We couldn’t operate in Queensland without the support of the business community. We are so grateful to those businesses that have supported us financially, through fundraising or attending a Cooking For A Cause session. In particular, we wanted to thank OzHarvest Exceptional Partners, Woolworths and BP. They literally keep our wheels turning and we are thrilled they were able to join us on the day to celebrate.”

Ronni also presented signed copies of children’s book Lenny and The Ants to Cr Vicki Howard, Councillor for Central Ward, Cr Peter Matic, Councillor for Paddington Ward, Cr Andrew Wines, Councillor for Enoggera Ward and Cr Steve Griffiths, Councillor for Moorooka Ward. Ronni shared her passion for engaging children and young people in the fight against food waste and reconnecting people with the value of our food.

In Queensland, OzHarvest runs food rescue operations in Brisbane, Cairns, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.
