4.5 million meals delivered thanks to Brisbane City Council!

by OzAdmin

Brisbane City Council have been a national partner for four years, and recently, we were joined by a few Councillors who gave us a helping hand with food rescue in the lead up to Christmas, which can be a challenging time for many struggling to make ends meet.

Councillor Andrew Wines from Enoggera Ward, joined Celeste Schubiger, Queensland Engagement Manager in front of ‘Sunny,’ one of three vans generously sponsored by Brisbane City Council. ‘Sunny,’ ‘Tuckerbox,’ and ‘Ozzie’ are a mighty team out and about in communities every day. Together with our dedicated drivers, more than 4.5 million meals have been delivered to 130 charities in Brisbane. That’s the equivalent of more than 4.2 million kilos of food prevented from being emitted and 321 million litres of water saved!

Queensland State Manager, Michaela Windsor shares the impact of the partnership on local communities. “Our charities tell us that receiving regular food from OzHarvest empowers them to do much more than just feed people.  The money they save not having to buy food, means they can redirect funds into crucial areas such as housing, education, rehabilitation, and other essential frontline services to meet community needs. There has never been a more important time to connect with our cause as the need for food is higher than ever.”

“Brisbane is a clean and green city that puts our environment and our people first, something that we have in common with the amazing team at OzHarvest,” Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said. “For the past four years, our partnership with OzHarvest has delivered millions of meals a year to those in need and reduced food waste going into landfill. As cost of living pressures continue to hit families across the city, partnerships like this are so valuable in lightening the load on our most vulnerable residents. We look forward to seeing this relationship grow as we continue to provide more for Brisbane residents with OzHarvest.”

Councillor for Enoggera Ward Andrew Wines said the community would continue to feel the flow on effects from this partnership long past the holiday season. “This time of year can see an increase in need from those in the community struggling to make ends meet. Thankfully, the work Council and OzHarvest does through this partnership occurs year-round, making sure charities across Brisbane can service the needs of those in their area. It was a privilege to see the hardworking OzHarvest team in action, and I look forward to working with them further in my ward to give back to those in need.”

Thanks to the generosity of partners like Brisbane City Council, we can continue to provide good food to those who need it most and ‘Nourish our Country.’ 💛
