nib, Newcastle Knights & OzHarvest

by OzAdmin

Blog post by Monique Maguire, Newcastle Manager

It is not often you get to combine your passion with your job but on the night of July 25 at Hunter Stadium I got to do just that.

OzHarvest Newcastle is one of the nib foundation’s charitable partners. nib were the match day sponsor for the Knights V Roosters game and they very generously decided to highlight the great work we do.

The Newcastle Knights and their major sponsor, nib, put the call out to loyal Knights fans to bring non-perishable food items to the game to donate them to OzHarvest. Our volunteers collected 120 kilograms of food from fans.

nib also arranged for Knights back rower, Robbie Rochow, to spend some time with us on the van to get an insight into the work we do. You can watch Robbie in action here Robbie Rochow helps out OzHarvest

I had the privilege of conducting the coin toss with the Roosters captain Anthony Minichiello and Knights stand in skipper Jarrod Mullen. Being an avid rugby league fan, this was quite a highlight for me. The clip of Robbie was shown on the big screen to a crowd of 15,468 and then ground announcer, Glen Hawke, interviewed me about OzHarvest.  I would like to thank nib foundation, Glen Hawke, the Newcastle Knights and of course, Robbie Rochow for the outstanding job they all did in highlighting the wonderful contribution OzHarvest makes to our community.

With the ongoing support thanks to our partners including nib foundation, OzHarvest Newcastle has rescued more than 755,485 kilograms of surplus perishable food since its establishment in 2010 – the equivalent of 2.2 million meals.
