Primary schools in NSW tuck into FEAST!
by OzAdmin
Exciting times are ahead for primary school students in NSW as OzHarvest’s new education program – FEAST (Food Education and Sustainability Training) is now available. The curriculum aligned program is designed to inspire kids to eat healthy, waste less and be change makers in their local community. Like any good FEAST, it’s designed to be fun, engaging and filled with good food!
Thanks to amazing support from organisations who share our goals for creating a better world – CommBank and Newman’s Own Foundation – the program is being rolled out across NSW. Regional NSW schools can apply to receive the full program and resources free of charge.
FEAST NSW was successfully piloted in the Bankstown-Canterbury Local Government Area, where 300 students from four schools enjoyed hands-on cooking, learnt about healthy food and stopped good food going to waste by creating delicious recipes.
The program could not be easier for schools to implement as OzHarvest is a NSW Education Standards Authority endorsed teacher trainer provider and can supply all the classroom resources required. The 10-week module uses inquiry based learning to explore the role food plays in everyday lives and the importance of protecting the planet, through sustainability, reducing food waste and nutrition education.
