Food Rescue
Launching in 2014, OzHarvest Cairns has one yellow van which rescues two tonnes of surplus food every week! Allowing us to deliver over 5,500 meals a week to people in need in Cairns, Port Douglas and parts of the Atherton Tablelands such as Mossman and Mareeba.

Food Relief during COVID-19
To meet the increased need for food due to COVID-19, the Cairns team worked with local business Tropic Spirit Catering to create and distribute nearly 3,200 cooked meals to vulnerable communities. For the first time, purchased food has supplemented rescued food volumes allowing an extra 25,000 meals to be delivered between May and September. Increasing our food rescue run from 3.5 days to 4.5 days a week has enabled food to be distributed beyond Cairns, to reach vulnerable communities in Mossman, Mareeba and Port Douglas.

Volunteer
Our team of local Cairns volunteers are invaluable to our operation, helping us with everything from van assistant, hamper packing and even washing our food containers! We can’t do what we do without the support of the incredible volunteers in Cairns. If you are interested in volunteering with OzHarvest Cairns, please click the button below.

FEAST
FEAST (Food Education and Sustainability Training) is a curriculum aligned program aimed at year 5 and 6 students. FEAST runs for 7-10 weeks and is a STEM project-based learning program focusing on food and sustainability. The teacher-led program can be adapted and changed to suit your school’s needs.
Like any good FEAST, it’s designed to be fun, engaging and filled with good food.
