As Newcastle’s only perishable food rescue organisation, OzHarvest Newcastle is delivering significant social and environmental outcomes for individuals, organisations and local communities. Since OzHarvest Newcastle started in February 2010, our food rescue program has expanded rescuing over 1.4 million kilograms of surplus food – the equivalent of 4.1 million meals. The food is delivered to over 90 local agencies to support people in need. These agencies include neighbourhood centres, women’s and children’s refuges, youth accommodation services, boarding houses and schools that rely on our rescued produce donations to supplement their food programs.

We have been amazed at the generosity of our local food donors and their passion for making sure good food doesn’t go to waste. We are thrilled to be making a difference to many people’s lives, not to mention the benefit to the environment through ensuring good food is eaten rather than sent to landfill.

Our NEST program is a practical initiative which directly assists vulnerable men, women and youth to make a positive and lasting impact on their health and improve their life outcomes. It delivers nutrition education and basic cooking skills plus practical skills for managing food on a budget and meeting nutritional needs without food waste.

Can OzHarvest deliver food to individuals?

Unfortunately our drivers are unable to deliver food to personal or private residences. If you are looking for support, ASK IZZY can help you to find the services you need, now and nearby. It is free and anonymous, and you can search services to find food, housing, healthcare, counselling, legal advice, addiction treatment. You’ll just need to add your suburb and it will display results that are nearest.
